Sue Spargo Returns to Smith-Owen

We are delighted to have Sue Spargo coming to Smith Owen Sewing on October 25-28.  Sue travels the world teaching her wool techniques and we are very fortunate to have her visit us in West Michigan. It is indeed a great opportunity and a treat to take a class with her. This event is always a favorite and many stitchers have enjoyed it more and more each year. Just seeing Sue's work up close and being able to see the nuances of the textures and stitches is the inspiration that has helped us all grow in our own stitching.

Again This Year: Sue will be doing two 2-Day Workshops

Creating Stems and Flowers Workshop with Sue Spargo

Join us once again in welcoming the fabulous Sue Spargo!! Our project this year is Stems and Flowers. Using special techniques you will create a background loaded with texture and interest!  The vases, flowers, and stems will move into even more intricate needlework creating a beautiful work of art! Stitches, thread, color, and technique are what make Sue's works so stunning and unique. We can't wait to host this very special event once again this year!!

Sign up will begin on June 1 at 9:00 AM

About Sue:

Southern Africa has had a considerable influence on my life and creativity.  I was born in Zambia and then, in the nearby country of South Africa, I received my education and trained to be a nurse, I soon moved to England; this shift between two very different environments and cultures inspired many of my designs.  The stark contrasts between the arid beige and browns of the African bushveld and the lush greens of the rolling hills of Southern England have continued to be a rich source of ideas.

I am influenced especially by the energy and color of traditional African designs.  All these early experiences combined to stir my love of “primitive” arts and crafts and grew into my focus on folk-art.
