Great Quilt Basics

In this quilt you will learn so many of the great basics that I have been teaching my students for years. These are basics that will help you in all your future quilt making; Power Cutting, On Point Settings, Borders and about 50 other techniques and Tips. This is a class for beginners and advanced quilters alike – who doesn’t want to learn to be more efficient and accurate in their quilt making?  You will need to purchase a $20 book from the teacher along with supplies listed below.  Click on link.  If you have any questions after you purchase the class you can contact Nancy at

--Great Basics Book By Nancy Roelfsema
--3/4 yard of fabric for Setting Triangles. I recommend you start with a striped or multi-color fabric for the Setting Triangles and choose fabrics to coordinate with it to create the rest of this quilt. The stripe is not required but I would love to show yo how fun they are to use.
--1/2 yard of different fabrics for your 9-patch units, setting squares and border corners
--1 yard of fabric for the border and binding - we will not be using the fabric in class but we will discuss borders and binding techniques
--We will not get to the backing and batting but when you are ready for that you will need 3 yards for the backing (I would suggest a fabric wit a small busy multi-color print) and a batting that is 48” square.
--Rotary cutter (45mm size)
--Cutting mat: 18” x 24” mat recommended
--Ruler - a square that is at least 9 1/2” - if you have a larger one that is fine.
--Ruler - 6”x24”, or 6.5” or 8.5” wide
--Neutral Color Thread - 100% cotton that is 50 wt for piecing
--Straight Pins - a fine pin such as the Clover Silk glass pall head pins are recommended
--Seam Guides from Guidelines4Quilters
--Spray Sizing - Mary Ellens Best Press or Faultless Magic Brand
--Good Quality seam ripper such as the Clover Seam Ripper
